Vodacom has appointed government veteran Takalani Netshitenzhe as its new chief officer of corporate affairs. She will join the company on 15 September.

Netshitenzhe will report to Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub and be appointed to the Vodacom group executive committee.

She replaces Maya Makanjee, who left Vodacom at the end of July.

Prior to Netshitenzhe's appointment, she was the head of office and policy services for the Intelligence Council, ambassador of South Africa to Hungary and Croatia, and intelligence policy and legal advisor for the Ministry of State Security.

According to Vodacom, Netshitenzhe has spent her entire career in government, and is deeply knowledgeable and networked among key security policy-makers, influencers, opinion leaders and business leaders.

Over the last 20 years, in her policy and development and implementation work, as well as in her capacity as a ministerial advisor, Netshitenzhe has developed well-honed stakeholder and relationship management skills, says Joosub.

These were augmented during her four-year stint as ambassador in Hungary and Croatia, he adds.

She has operated as policy advisor and managed compliance in various roles within the Ministry of State Security.

Netshitenzhe is an admitted advocate in the High Court, and holds multiple post-graduate degrees, diplomas and certifications.

These include a masters degree in security studies from the School of Political Science at the University of Pretoria, a higher diploma in company law and a bachelor of law degree, both from Witwatersrand University, and a Bluris degree from the University of Venda.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Netshitenzhe was awarded the Hungary Eotvos ELTE University commemorative medal and certificate for her relentless efforts to promote academic and cultural cooperation between SA and Hungary, and deepening bilateral relations and enhancing educational ties between the two countries.

She also received the Intelligence Services Woman of the Year Award for meritorious contribution to the legal and policy framework for intelligence in SA.
