WildEarth, in partnership with HerdTracker, is live streaming Kenya's wildebeest migration via Facebook and YouTube this week.

The broadcasts follow the herds migrating across the Mara River, and will also show the predatory action of lions hunting at night in the Masai Mara National Reserve.

The live broadcasts will be hosted daily on HerdTracker's Facebook page and WildEarth's safariLIVE YouTube channel between 16:00 to 23:30 EAT (13:00 to 20:30 GMT), till Sunday, 25 September.

WildEarth will also be broadcasting live from SA's Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which shares a border with the Kruger National Park.

Andre Van Kets, creator of the HerdTracker web-app which tracks the wildebeest migration in real-time, hopes that by broadcasting the wildebeest migration live, it will encourage more international travellers to make Kenya a holiday destination.

Graham Wallington, CEO of WildEarth hopes to show an authentic African safari experience.

"One of the scenes that is brought to mind when people think of Africa are the vast expanses of open land and myriad different herbivorous species streaming across these great plains as they follow the torrential rains," says Wallington. "Of course, this is an absolute feast for the predators who really get their claws stuck in after sunset."

The broadcasters will be using infrared lighting and thermal imaging for the first time during the live safaris to show what is happening at night clearly.

Last year, HerdTracker in partnership with Make It Kenya hosted #MaraLive - the first live web broadcast of the wildebeest migration via Twitter's Periscope app.
