LinkedIn now has a dedicated online learning platform to upskill its users.
LinkedIn now has a dedicated online learning platform to upskill its users.

LinkedIn is integrating online learning into its offerings with a new platform that aims to upskill its users with business, technology and creative skills development courses.

LinkedIn Learning is the fruit of LinkedIn's acquisition of online learning company Lynda.com, made last year for $1.5 billion.

Lynda.com offered online courses in business, software, technology and creative skills, and could be subscribed to by individuals or corporate, academic and government organisations.

A subscription gave members access to an "extensive" video library of courses taught by recognised industry experts, and is available in English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish.

It looks like LinkedIn learning will be following a similar model and be accessible on desktop, smartphone and tablet. The company says the video-based tutorials are led by more than 800 industry experts chosen from around the world.

The company says courses will be personalised and recommended based on information uploaded to LinkedIn by the user.

LinkedIn says it will be adding 25 new courses every week at no extra cost.

Companies who choose to implement the platform into their businesses will be able to track how employees perform in the courses.

LinkedIn was acquired earlier this year by Microsoft for $26.2 billion.

According to the latest SA Social Media Landscape Report, LinkedIn has grown significantly this year in the country, up 19% to 5.5million users.
