Far South Networks puts SA on the international Asterisk map

Local technology company invited to present at the annual AstriCon conference.

Cape Town, 26 Sep 2016

Far South Networks, a leader in delivering feature-rich, next generation telephony solutions, has been invited to present at this year's AstriCon conference. Company co-founder and CTO, Michael Walton will have the opportunity to address an international audience of technology innovators and product vendors at AstriCon 2016, which will take place in Arizona in the US.

AstriCon's mission is to expand awareness and knowledge of Asterisk, and the 2016 event will encompass a three-day conference and exhibition. This will provide a forum for Asterisk integrators and business users to learn about the technology, participate in technical sessions and network with one another.

"We are proud to have been offered the opportunity to present our technologies and communications platforms at this annual, global technology event. Far South Networks will have the chance to rub shoulders with some of the best technology innovators and product vendors from all over the world at AstriCon 2016," says Grant Broomhall, the company's CEO.

He suggests that it is an exciting time to present at this event, as Far South Networks has recently launched Wanderweb to its channel partners in the Southern African market.

"Wanderweb.net is a cloud service integrating contemporary, web service-centric technologies to deliver unified communications 'as a service' to Far South Networks customers, on both existing and new hardware products. Our invitation to AstriCon this year is a clear indication that Wanderweb is viewed as a state-of-the-art communications tool which fulfils a growing business trend and which competes with the best vendor platforms in the world."

Broomhall adds that the company's presentation will introduce the architecture and technologies integrated within the Wanderweb platform. It is titled 'Asterisk and the Social Internet of Things', he explains, and will cover WebRTC, SIP over websockets and Node.js.

"We aim to show how innovative and cutting edge technologies can be used to address current business needs. We will place the Social Internet of Things into a business context and demonstrate how a business tool built on this concept can deliver critical business requirements such as bring your own device (BYOD) and over-the-top (OTT) communications, without compromising security. Furthermore, we will illustrate how - using WebRTC - Wanderweb is democratising communications, enabling users to be free of network providers and of devices."

"I believe our appearance at the AstriCon 2016 Exhibition will go a long way towards helping to put South African technology companies on the international map. Far South Networks is happy to lead the way in showing that local businesses can compete effectively with major, international vendors in the same market place," concludes Broomhall.
