The new MasterCard API portal allows developers to easily integrate payment solutions into third-party apps.

In an effort to be interoperable, finance solutions company MasterCard has introduced an application programming interface (API) platform for developers.

This means app developers will be able to integrate MasterCard's digital payment solutions into third-party apps. This was announced this week, while the MasterCard Innovation Forum was taking place in Budapest, Hungary.

The Web site, called MasterCard Developers, is a single gateway that enables MasterCard partners to access a range of APIs across payments, data and security.

The platform also includes a 'new and experimental' API category that enables developers to test new technologies and applications.

The experimental APIs, developed at the company's eight R&D labs around the world, will help MasterCard partners build, scale and enable payments on new platforms, such as augmented reality, virtual reality and the Internet of things.

"We see MasterCard Developers as empowering our customers, partners and their developers in their efforts to innovate and grow their own businesses," said Oran Cummins, senior VP for APIs at MasterCard.

The company says there are more than 25 APIs available to work with and each has been designed to be easy to connect to. Additional services will be added in the coming months.
