SAP South Africa achieves podium finish at Top Employers South Africa 2017

Johannesburg, 17 Oct 2016
Top Employer.
Top Employer.

SAP South Africa is proud to announce that it achieved a coveted third place ranking in the Top Employers Institute annual research programme in South Africa. Recognised for its exceptional employee offerings, SAP South Africa competed with more than 75 companies participating in this year's programme, to reach the list of Top 10 employers in South Africa.

The annual international research undertaken by the Top Employers Institute recognises leading employers around the world: those that provide excellent employee conditions, nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the organisation, and which strive to continuously optimise employment practices. SAP South Africa has been awarded the exclusive Top Employers South Africa 2017 certification.

"Creating a diverse and inclusive culture makes us a better company, fuelling our innovation, enhancing our experience of work and enabling us to succeed in a rapidly changing world," commented Lawrence Kandaswami, Managing Director of SAP South Africa. "As companies undergo digital transformations, functions and processes, including Human Resources, are being radically reinvented. And with that reinvention, HR will assume a new kind of leadership role, helping to shape the workforce of tomorrow."

The Top Employers Institute globally certifies excellence in the conditions that employers create for their people. It has just announced the results of this year's research into the employee conditions of significant employers in South Africa. SAP South Africa is one of the select organisations to achieve the Top Employers South Africa 2017 certification and delighted to be officially recognised as a leading employer.

The Top Employers Institute assessed SAP South Africa's employee offerings on the following criteria:

* Talent strategy;
* Workforce planning;
* On-boarding;
* Learning and development;
* Performance management;
* Leadership development;
* Career and succession management;
* Compensation and benefits; and
* Culture.

Since implementing the SAP Successfactors Human Capital Management solutions in 2012, SAP South Africa has seen a positive shift and impact across multiple stakeholders, including employees, leaders, and the human resources organisation. "The technology used by human resources departments in the new, digital world of business, plays a critical role in the transformation of business strategies into business outcomes" says Chris van der Merwe of the Talent Acquisition team at SAP South Africa. "Information and processes delivered to end users enables them to predict, plan, implement, and measure. Therefore, as you begin or continue to transform business strategies into outcomes, the enabling technology needs to encompass the right functionality to maximise employee engagement by putting them at the centre, keep them committed, involved, and productive during that transformation."

The war on talent in South Africa and Africa does mean that a key success factor to organisational efficiency remains the acquisition and retention of people. SAP South Africa successfully runs various Pan African programmes to recruit and cultivate its key resource: people.

"Being employed by SAP Africa has been a journey that changed my life, says Busi Kgowana, SAP Commercial Business Partner. "I started my employment as part of the cleaning staff in Johannesburg as I had bills to pay. My colleagues at SAP recognised my strong work ethic and dedication and I was afforded the opportunity to become a receptionist, from which point I started building my career. SAP Africa cares about me beyond the boundaries of just being an employee."
