Boost for Duxbury's Netgear range

Johannesburg, 19 Oct 2016

Duxbury Networking, the local distributor of Netgear products, has added three new offerings to its range. These are the ProSafe WAC740 and WAC104 wireless access points and the ProSafe XS716E 16-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet Web-managed switch.

According to Tobie van Schalkwyk, Netgear Business Development manager at Duxbury Networking, the WAC740 is a Premium Business 802.11ac 4 x 4 Wave 2 wireless access point, ideal for users looking for ultra-robust, reliable wireless solutions that leverage the improved performance enabled by the latest 802.11ac WiFi technology.

"The WAC740 delivers high performance with maximum client density for enterprises requiring ubiquitous and reliable wireless for all business applications. It makes it easy for customers to add more users to their networks quickly and in denser deployment scenarios," he says.

The ProSafe WAC740 operates with Multi-User MIMO and can achieve speeds up to 600 Mbps for 2.4 GHz and 1.7 Gbps at 5 GHz. The WAC740 is Power over Ethernet (POE) enabled and comes with two Ethernet ports, including one Multi-Gig port that can handle up to 2.5 Gbps of throughput, enabling a single wire to connect to a Multi-Gig-capable switch for ease of wiring installation. It is equipped with internal or external antenna options, facilitating flexible deployment

Complementing the ProSafe WAC740 is Netgear's new ProSafe WAC104 wireless access point, targeted at small office and home office (SoHo) applications. According to Van Schalkwyk, it is a cost-effective, high-performance dual-band 802.11ac access point supporting up to an aggregate throughput of 1.2Gbps (300Mbps for 2.4GHz and 867 Mbps 802.11ac for 5GHz).

"The WAC104 AP operates in standalone mode with an intuitive user interface and a set of external antennae. It is ideally positioned for users demanding high throughput, ultra-superior performance and extensive coverage," he says.

He adds that dealers and resellers looking for cost-effective solutions for their customers will appreciate the overall value offered by Netgear's new access points in terms of performance, scalability, reliability and ease of management.

Another addition to Netgear's ProSAFE Web-managed switch family is the XS716E, designed as a cost-effective solution to the provision of 10G connections to 10G-capable servers and Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems.

"The XS716E joins the successful XS708 8-Port version already on the market, offering twice as many ports in the same form factor," explains Van Schalkwyk.

"A key feature is its pricing which is significantly below that of many 10G Base-T solutions. Essentially, Netgear is breaking the price barrier for 10Gig switches, offering management capabilities unseen before at this price category," he notes.

Other features of the XS716E switch include virtual LAN (VLAN) support, Internet traffic prioritisation through Netgear's Quality of Service (QOS) function, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) network traffic snooping, port trunking/link aggregation, rate limiting and traffic monitoring.

Van Schalkwyk adds that the potent combination of Big Data applications, cloud services, mobile devices and the deployment of 802.11ac WiFi is putting severe stress on networks. "In this light, Netgear has designed the XS716E to assist price-sensitive customers who are eager to implement 10-Gigabit solutions to improve network capacity, speed and performance but who have, until now, been hampered by cost."
