Telecommunications company BT has appointed Kevin Hardy as MD for Africa with immediate effect.

Currently BT's head of sales for Africa, Hardy replaces Oliver Fortuin, who will leave the business in February 2017.

In his new role as managing director, Hardy will be in charge of growing the company's business and leading the regional management team, says BT.

Kevin Taylor, BT president for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, says: "We have made huge progress over the last few years in developing our business in Africa, but there is still much more that BT can do to help the digital transformation ambition of the region.

"Kevin Hardy's strong leadership and proven years of success will be a great asset to the continuing growth of our African business. I'd also like to thank Oliver Fortuin for his contribution to our business during his time."

Hardy previously worked as country sales director for Cisco and as national GM of converged communications for Dimension Data.

BT in Africa offers managed networked IT services to help customers succeed in a changing world. It has over 20 years of experience operating in the Africa region, with connectivity coverage in 43 countries.

According to BT, the company runs three regional offices and network points-of-presence in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

It also manages 24x7 network and customer support service centres in Durban and Cape Town, servicing 32 countries across the Middle East and African region.
