Global distributor for IT products, RS Components, has appointed Cameron Ward as senior vice president of innovation.

RS Components, which specialises in the distribution of electrical, electronic and mechanical tools, says Ward will be responsible for extending the application of innovation and technology across the business to improve the customer and supplier experience.

This includes leading the DesignSpark initiative, which offers key design information, resources and a suite of free-for-download tools to its community of over 500 000 members, it adds.

Ward, who joins the company immediately, was previously the vice president of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Flex, where he managed the global procurement, supply chain and supplier management of Flex Ciii, a software-infrastructure and cloud storage business. Prior to this, he worked in various executive roles in product, supplier management, procurement and business development at Premier Farnell, Arrow Electronics, Future Electronics, and e2open.

Alex von Schirmeister, chief innovation officer at RS, says: "Cameron's strength and experience lies in understanding how innovation can be applied to every aspect of a company in our industry, and how strategic alliances with strong technology partners can significantly accelerate our value proposition to suppliers and customers alike. He will be a key asset to RS, helping us to forge ahead and take innovation to the next level."

Commenting on his appointment, Cameron states: "I'm extremely passionate about innovation and the benefits technology can bring to a business and am very excited to be joining RS at this pivotal time to help drive increased value for our customers and suppliers."

According to RS Components, Ward has over 20 years' experience in the electronics industry, working in locations across North America and Asia Pacific.
