Brightwave brings heavily discounted broadband to Soweto schools and free Internet access to 100 000 residents a day

Johannesburg, 23 Feb 2017

Brightwave is a renowned technological firm whose objective has been to provide Internet connectivity in underserved areas in South Africa.

A recent study by Mott MacDonald, commissioned by Brightwave, has revealed that broadband penetration in South Africa's largest township, Soweto, is at 3% compared to 65% in Johannesburg's suburbs. While South Africa has been free for 20 years, true freedom comes from having access to empowering information from the Internet. BrightWave's mission is to champion freedom by bridging the digital divide in South Africa through offering broadband for all.

The CEO, Charles Mwaura highlighted the importance of the campaign:

'The Internet is a powerful tool that offers empowerment through education and training, revenue generating opportunities through digital entrepreneurship and avenues to interact with the rest of the world on equal footing. With our facilities and capacity building campaigns of this nature, we are offering real value and true freedom for users. We see this service as only the first step towards our contribution in making this a reality for all.'

Brightwave's innovative package for parents at Protea Glen High School, where it will have an information day on the 25th of February 2017, at 10am is:

The 'Home Connect' package which caters for the entire family Internet needs and especially for the students who need it for homework. 30GB is available for each new family subscribing, from R149 with an installation fee of R1 200.

Brightwave has 400 free WiFi spots in Soweto thus offering unlimited Internet accessible to at least 100 000 residents each day.

Brightwave is a broadband technology company committed to offering high speed Internet to help bridge the digital divide.

Brightwave-broadband for all.
