Peter Moyo, Vodacom's independent chairman, is joining Old Mutual.

Peter Moyo, independent chairman of the Vodacom Group, will retire and step down from the board at the forthcoming annual general meeting to be held on 18 July 2017.

Moyo will be joining Old Mutual Emerging Markets as its CEO in June 2017.

In a statement, Vodacom says: "The board would like to take this opportunity to thank Peter for his leadership and dedication to the board and Vodacom over the past seven years.

Moyo joined Vodacom at listing in May 2009 and has made a considerable contribution to the board both in its governance and in its deliberations, the mobile operator says.

"The board wishes him much success in his new role at Old Mutual."

The Vodacom board is in the process of identifying a new independent chairman and a further announcement will be made in due course.

Moyo was appointed CEO of Alexander Forbes after a two-year stint as the company's Africa MD. He left the company at the end of 2007. Before that, Moyo worked for Old Mutual SA as its deputy MD. He is also one of the founding members of Amabubesi Investments.
