Veeam has revealed its cloud revenue surged 59% year-on-year, enabled by its cloud and service providers.

The disaster recovery and virtualisation management software company released its Q1 2017 results yesterday.

Veeam recorded a 33% year-on-year increase in total revenue bookings, while new enterprise licence bookings grew 17% annually.

"It's no small feat for a company with more than $600 million in annual bookings to deliver 33% growth year-on-year," says Peter McKay, president and COO at Veeam.

"Looking ahead, we expect continued growth for the remainder of this year, driven by new product releases, joint product offerings with our alliances partners and further share gains in enterprise, and powered cloud solutions. We will also continue to expand our worldwide enterprise sales teams to meet that demand, especially in North America and EMEA.

"These additions will support our customers' and partners' strategic digital transformation initiatives."

Veeam regional manager for Africa Claude Schuck previously explained that a large part of the company's recalibrated Africa strategy will focus on expansion of the business.

"We have made a statement by investing in premises in SA because bricks and mortar are always important as it shows commitment from a company. Over the past year, we've spent time trying to grow the company and find ways to cement our presence in the rest of Africa.

"We would like to have a more solid representation in East Africa. We are also hiring more people in sales and presales because of a growing workload across the continent and we are going into different countries and training and upskilling our partners ? usually three or four per country ? so they can represent us even better."

Schuck says Veeam has experienced greater uptake of its services in Africa as more businesses are starting to appreciate the true cost of downtime and its impact on jobs and the viability of their businesses.

Last month, the company expanded its partnership with Cisco by introducing the Cisco HyperFlex hyper-converged infrastructure platform, which integrated Veeam Availability Suite with the Cisco unified computing system. The platform is designed to enhance efficiency in the modern hybrid cloud era, reduce backup and recovery times while improving IT systems availability.

Speaking on the partnership, McKay said reducing recovery time for data and applications is paramount for businesses.

"By combining Veeam's proven availability solutions with Cisco's next-generation HyperFlex platform, we can offer customers unmatched data and application availability. This means a business can realise its investment in IT, without the production downtime that stifles its ability to execute and deliver innovative products and services to customers."
