Detecting and managing internal and external vulnerabilities within your IT estate is a necessity to help manage cyber security risks, compliance and quality. In April 2016, Khipu Networks launched its vulnerability management service that automates the process of vulnerability scanning and provides the necessary reporting to help organisations prioritise and act upon their areas of risk. Wannacry (or WannaCrypt, WanaCrypt0r 2.0, Wanna Decryptor) is a ransomware computer worm that targets the Microsoft Windows operating system. It's mostly related to a flaw described in detail in Microsoft's bulletin 17-010. Khipu's service, based upon Greenbone technology, identified the vulnerability in its early stages in February and provided recommendations to help mitigate any spread of exploits. Customers, using the service, were notified of the vulnerability including which devices would be affected, along with the required remediation information to mitigate the attack. Since Friday, many customers have been in contact, thanking Greenbone for this early warning as they had followed the recommendations back in mid-February and were not affected by WannaCry.
