Recruitment for the Absa 2018 Rising Eagles programme is now open.

Absa has opened applications for its Rising Eagles graduate programme.

Rising Eagles targets graduates across a multitude of disciplines, with a strong focus on technology, finance, maths, statistics, analytics, risk management, actuarial science and those with a customer-centric mind-set.

Tech graduates can join the programme as developers or business analysts, working on everything from Absa's apps and infrastructure, to the bank's software and systems.

The big four bank notes customer-facing graduates are integrated into Absa's corporate and investment banking, and retail and business banking divisions, where they service the needs of the rapidly expanding African economy through bespoke solutions.

They also have access to opportunities in the bank's corporate banking division, which provides integrated solutions to large businesses and financial institutions, and the Commercial Property Finance unit, which offers property finance solutions across the bank's African footprint, as well as cross-border funding solutions in other jurisdictions.

This includes opportunities to work in the bank's client engagement and market divisions, says Absa.

The bank explains that today's bright, young graduates want to effect genuine change in the world they live in. Although these final-year students have not yet had an opportunity to hone their experience in the workplace, they are armed with something the world desperately needs - great ideas, it notes.

It is on this premise, and the belief that ideas can truly change the world, that Absa's Rising Eagles graduate programme is based; not on giving graduates a place to work, but rather giving them a platform to bring those ideas to life and let them soar, Absa adds.

"This is what differentiates the Rising Eagles programme from other graduate initiatives. It is based on nurturing ideas; out-of-this-world, revolutionary ideas. Because we have the resources to turn those original ideas into real-life game-changing innovations, that will not only further our objectives of becoming the leading digital bank, but transform the financial services sector in Africa as a whole as well," explains Vanessa Carstens, head of early careers at Absa.

"This is in line with Absa's Shared Growth philosophy - its inherent stewardship culture that aims to make a positive difference in the communities in which we operate. This organisation-wide transformation strategy comprises three areas deemed critical to human development and economic inclusion: education and skills development, enterprise development and financial inclusion."

Rising Eagles offers opportunities across Africa, in SA, Botswana, Ghana, Seychelles, Tanzania and Uganda. It has an integrated approach to training and development that combines classroom training, group activities, projects and e-learning. The programme offers specific events featuring specialist speakers that deliver key topics that affect the bank's business and graduates' specific roles.

Absa is looking for graduates with a variety of qualifications, including but not limited to computer science, engineering, business science, statistics, analytics, risk management, data, accounting and finance.

Tech grads should have C#, Java, C++, HTML5, iOS, Android, MSSQL Server, Hadoop, messaging, Agile, test automation, application management and support expertise.

Recruitment for the 2018 Rising Eagles programme is now open, and runs until 18 June. Click here for more information.
