Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei launched the P10 Lite mid-range device in SA this week.

Following the launch of its flagship P10 and P10 Plus smartphones earlier this year, the company hopes to appeal to more budget-conscious customers with the P10 Lite. The device sells for the recommended retail price of R5 299.

The P10 Lite costs less than half of the P10, which sells for R12 999. The P10 Plus is priced at R13 999.

The mid-range device is slightly larger than the P10 with a 5.2-inch display. It also runs on Android Nougat but has a smaller 3 100mAh battery.

The fingerprint scanner for the P10 Lite has been moved to the back of the smartphone, as seen on the P9 launched last year.

The P10 Lite will not feature the Leica-engineered dual camera set-up like the P10. The rear camera does, however, have 12MP like the cameras on the P10.

It features technology that the company says allows the battery to charge faster and in less time.

"For regular users, a 43% battery can be achieved in 30 minutes, and a 10-minute charge supports two hours of video watching."

The device will be made available in gold, black, white and the new blue introduced this year.
