MTN appoints new execs

MTN SA has appointed five new members to its executive team in a bid to enhance operational efficiency.

The first is Marco Gagiano, the executive for customer value management. He joins MTN SA from MTN Group where he was GM of business services and operations in Southern and East Africa.

Before he joined MTN Group, Gagiano served as director of customer value management at Business Logic Systems in the UK. He has also worked for the Vodafone Group.

Nico Eskes has been appointed head of business process transformation. He is responsible for managing the transformation of MTN SA's business processes and associated technology implementation and billing capabilities.

Eskes has been a chartered accountant in the telecommunications industry for the last twenty years. Prior to MTN he was head of products and services for Vodafone Netherlands.

Both Eskes' and Gagiano's appointments are effective immediately.

Philip Besimiire has been appointed executive for regional operations. He was formally CEO of MTN Sudan. His appointment was effective 1 June 2017.

Mapula Bodibe has been appointed executive for the consumer business unit. She has worked for the company for the past ten years. She previously held the role of chief marketing officer in MTN Uganda. Her appointment was effective 1 June 2017.

Nico Jacobs has been appointed executive for sales and distribution. His position will be effective 1 July 2017. He is currently the chief operations officer of McDonald's South Africa, and has previously served in senior executive positions at ABSA, EDCON, Standard Bank and The Foschini Group.
