Local Internet service provider (ISP) MWeb will launch LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) products in July.

The Dimension Data-owned ISP is looking to complement its existing fibre-to-the-home and ADSL offerings and expand its portfolio of broadband options.

It notes that with LTE-A, users can expect speeds up to 50Mbps in ideal network and coverage conditions.

The products will operate via the Rain LTE-A network, with 750 active sites so far and an expected roll-out of 2 000 sites by year-end.

The Rain LTE-A network already extends across SA's major centres and metropolitan areas, and currently has 750 active base stations. The company is on target to reach 2 000 sites by the end of the year and expects to increase its footprint to 5 000 base stations by 2018, and ultimately grow to 10 000 sites over time.

"Our LTE product range offers simple, affordable, self-installed home connectivity, enabling multiple devices to connect to the Internet. We're excited to be bringing our customers a diverse product range, allowing them to find their optimal connectivity solution," says Rihana Hoosain, MWeb head of products.

Three fixed LTE-A products are available on a month-to-month basis: LTE-A Basic 55GB for R549 per month, LTE-A Advanced 85GB for R799 per month, and LTE-A Ultimate 120 GB for R999 per month.

Last month, pan-African telecoms services provider, Internet Solutions, acquired consumer Internet service provider MWeb Connect, through parent company Dimension Data.
