The South African business unit of Veeam Software saw its growth reach 31% year-on-year for the second quarter of 2017, the company announced yesterday.

The global business of the backup, disaster recovery and virtualisation management software provider recorded 27% year-on-year growth for the same period, which marks 36 straight quarters of double-digit growth.

The local growth figures mimic the global figures, which is encouraging for the region, Veeam's regional manager for Africa, Claude Schuck, told ITWeb.

Schuck says strong growth for the South African business can be attributed to the increase in orders from enterprise and local government customers.

"We had our biggest growth for the quarter in the enterprise space, as well as a lot of uptake in local government. These are key sectors that contributed to growth in our region."

He adds: "In terms of the hosting side of the business, we had our largest growth and largest uptake of added services in Q2. Veeam partners are offering added services and backup as a service using our products - there is a big uptake in that space as well."

The company will continue to develop these areas that contributed to growth in Q2, Schuck points out.

Veeam also experienced strong growth in markets like Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia and Mozambique, he notes.

Globally, Veeam extended its customer base by adding 13 000 new customers. For the Africa south region, Veeam added 218 new customers.
