Oracle is adding 1 000 new jobs in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as it continues aggressive plans to grow its cloud computing business.

Derek Bose, Oracle senior director for SA and the SADC cluster, could not break down the country split of the roles but told ITWeb "some of these roles will be in SA and in a number of other markets across the continent".

Bose says expansion plans come on the back of the company's strong financial results last month, with total cloud revenue up 58% to $1.4 billion (R18 billion).

"Oracle is now the fastest growing scaled cloud company and is predicting its cloud business will accelerate into hyper-growth in the current year," he says.

As a late entrant into the cloud market, Oracle has been doubling down on efforts to bolster its cloud-based services.

"Our cloud business is growing at incredible rates, so now is the right time to bring in a new generation of talent to our company. We are looking to hire relationship-focused people who are self-motivated and smart, who thrive on business transformation for our customers and love delivering great results," says Tino Scholman, VP of Oracle Cloud in EMEA.

Bose says cloud adoption in Africa is growing rapidly, and quoted IDC estimates that ICT spend in Nigeria and Kenya in 2017 will reach $1.8 billion (R23 billion) and $1.2 billion (R15.6 billion) respectively.

"Africa is a priority market for Oracle and we are committed to support Africa's Industry 4.0 preparedness with our latest cloud solutions. Over the past three decades, Oracle has consistently expanded its presence across the continent to support a fast-growing customer and partner base," he told ITWeb.

Oracle now operates in 13 dedicated offices across Africa. These include two each in Nigeria, Egypt and SA, and single offices in Algeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Morocco and Mauritius.

Applications for the new roles are already open under a campaign called 'Change Happens Here'. Oracle says it is looking for graduate-level candidates from diverse backgrounds and profiles ? with two to six years of work experience ? currently in human resources, marketing, recruitment, finance, supply chain or sales roles.
