ZTE South Africa, part of the ZTE - a global leader in the provision of telecommunications equipment and network solutions - further reinforced its commitment to uplifting SA's youth with a celebration of Mandela Day at the Diepsloot Combined School.
Earlier this year the telecommunications giant revealed details of its graduate training and internship scheme. This latest initiative forms part of the company's ongoing corporate social investment (CSI) programme, says Liu Haishi, Chairman of ZTE South Africa which is focused on education.
ZTE participated in an event at the school on Saturday 22 July, as part of the overall commemorative projects taking place nationally in honour of Nelson Mandela.
"The school is located in the heart of the Diepsloot informal settlement and is a refuge for underprivileged children. It is a place of safety where they get a daily nutritious meal as well as the most important aspect of the endeavour - an education. We are committed to supporting the upliftment of SA's youth through education and especially on this most auspicious day in celebration of the great Mr Mandela," said Haishi.
ZTE's Mandela Day sponsorship entailed providing essential personal toiletries to the girls at the school. The company became involved with the project through Penini Holdings, a wholly African female-owned enterprise, which has been driving projects for the day since 2014 in collaboration with the management of the Diepsloot Combined School.
"The aim of the endeavour is the supply of essential toiletries to school girls. In this regard ZTE staff individually wrapped 300 packages filled with these vital personal items. This is a very important initiative and ZTE is proud to have yet again been involved in contributing positively to the lives of these young girls in a drive that ultimately aims to keep them at school," concluded Haishi.
