An escalating need to get relevant and useful information to decision makers and analysts in the most effective way, has seen a corresponding growth in the implementation of an array of BI toolsets in local and global organisations.
"We've picked up on this trend," says Gill Staniland, Synergy Data Strategist "and have come to see that "fit for purpose" is a clear driving factor when it comes to selecting BI tools.
"Business users are simply taking more control in both the acquisition and implementation of the software they use."
But while individual users can find this approach appealing and empowering, the ability to share output, manage, govern and secure these environments can become a real headache.
"This is where Theia comes in," says Staniland. "Theia, from Motio, provides a platform for multiple BI toolsets to live happily side-by-side, sharing data sources and security profiles, while giving users a single place to go to get their Tableau dashboard, Cognos report, or Qlik app.
"Sharing data models is a big plus. For example, Cognos metadata models (Framework Manager) containing table relationships, business rules and calculations, can be re-used in Tableau, thus reducing re-work and making sure rules and formulae are used consistently throughout the organisation."
BI is most useful when seen in context with other information so content from, among others, Google Drive and Sharepoint, can easily be added side-by-side with reports and dashboards. This could be particularly useful in training videos on Drive, or company documents on Sharepoint.
Synergy's upcoming event is not just aimed at Cognos customers, but will be of great value to Qlik, Tableau and Power BI customers too.
The event will take place in Durban on the 22nd of August; Johannesburg on the 23rd of August; and Cape Town on the 24th of August. To find out more, or to register, click here.
