Henrietta Salter has joined ERM as a partner in the global sustainability consultancy's Johannesburg office.

She has been tasked with helping companies align and integrate their sustainability objectives with business imperatives, enabling them to improve performance.

Salter, who holds an engineering doctorate in environmental technology, was previously associate director at KPMG, where she was responsible for assessment and verification of the environmental liabilities of industrial clients. Prior to that, she was senior consultant with SRK Consulting, an environment management consulting company.

While at SRK Consulting, Salter was involved in complex environmental audits of mining operations and projects following the Equator Principles and International Finance Corporation Performance Standards on behalf of local and international banks.

She carried out environmental due diligences for numerous mining and processing projects in all phases of development, from concept studies through to bankable feasibility studies.

Says Marinda Rasmussen, managing partner of ERM Africa and Middle East: "Henrietta is a very welcome addition to our partner group in Africa and Middle East. Her experience speaks for itself, and I have no doubt her insight and expertise will be welcomed by our clients."

ERM is a global company that provides environmental, health, safety, risk, and social consulting services.

Last month, the firm signed a memorandum of understanding with Infosys, in which the companies will collaborate to provide innovative solutions for clients by leveraging technology and environment, health, safety and social data for operational performance breakthroughs.

Speaking at the time of the signing, Rajesh Krishnamurthy, president at Infosys, said the firm was investing in leveraging innovative technologies towards meeting its sustainability goals.

"Mindful automation, innovation and education are the pillars of our strategy for a sustainable corporation. Leveraging digital technologies and applying the principles of design thinking to address pressing global challenges of energy, water, waste, emissions and biodiversity is key to being more sustainable. We are delighted to partner with ERM in cross-leveraging our respective strengths towards creating new business value for our clients."
