Eskom's CIO and group executive for IT, Sean Maritz, has been named interim CEO, effective immediately.

Eskom made the announcement this afternoon saying that its board had decided "to rotate current executives in this role to ensure exposure". Johnny Dladla has occupied the role of interim CEO since June 2017. Dladla will now go back to his role as CEO of Eskom Rotek Industries (ERI).

Eskom thanked Dladla "for the work well done" and said it wishes Maritz all the best in this new role.

"In an effort to embed organisational stability, it is imperative that the role of Eskom's group chief executive be permanently filled. The recruitment process will begin in due course," Eskom said in a statement.

Maritz was a top 10 finalist for the IITPSA's 2016 Visionary CIO Award in 2016. His Eskom career has spanned over 28 years.

"I've spent all my life at one company. I've been through all the ranks, which has helped me understand the organisation, the people and their values," he told ITWeb last year.
