Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has unveiled its flagship phablet the Mate 10 in Germany.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has announced its new flagship phablet range at an event in Munich, Germany.

The range includes the Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, and a smartphone designed by car manufacturer Porsche. All three feature the new artificial intelligence (AI) enabled chipset, Kirin 970, launched by the company at IFA earlier this year.

"As we enter the age of intelligence, AI is no longer a virtual concept but something that intertwines with our daily life. AI can enhance user experience, provide valuable services and improve product performance," says Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group.

"The Huawei Mate 10 Series introduces the first mobile AI-specific Neural Network Processing Unit, launching a new era of intelligent smartphones."

South Africa will be among the first to have the new smartphones.

"We are delighted to bring the Mate 10 Pro and the Porsche Design Mate 10 to South Africa as we believe these smartphones will cater for the South African consumer needs as we enter the age of AI," says Likun Zhao, GM, Huawei Consumer Business Group SA.

"Consumers will be able to pre-order their devices online after our local launch on the 6th of November 2017."

The smartphones all feature new Leica dual camera technology, as well as an 'almost' bezel-less 5.9-inch or 6-inch display, and run on Android 8.

They have a 4000 mAh battery with fast-charging capabilities.
