BPM will be 'everywhere' as it becomes more focused on work management rather than pure process management.

This is the view of Jim Sinur, VP and research fellow at Aragon Research. He believes that at new technologies are going to have a massive impact on BPM, while BPM would play a significant role in their growth and development.

These included:

Predictive Apps

Predictive apps will become smarter and more adept at being able to see, hear and understand language, enabling them not only to help humans do manual tasks, but also to assist with one of the key elements missing from today's digital platforms - decisioning.

Deep learning

Big Data and deep learning will go beyond the machine learning algorithms that are becoming increasingly prevalent today. Unlike relatively low-cost, easy-to-deploy machine learning, medium-to-high-cost deep learning will be able to learn on the fly. At the high end of the spectrum will be cognitive computing that will provide expert systems that are highly "trained" on specific topics and could play a massive role in areas such as healthcare.

Internet of things

The growing number of IoT devices and smart machines will result in massive business disruptions and lead to new connectivity requirements and new business models.

The challenge will be to manage IoT devices and apps and ensure they are able to talk to each other.

Sales enablement platforms

Sales enablement platforms are the first step in digital selling. These will require content creation; sales content management; real-time communications; advanced analytics, CRM; and partner apps.

Video-assisted business apps
Video-assisted business applications will become increasingly important in corporate communications, corporate learning, content marketing, sales communications and customer support.

Cognitive assistants
Chatbots and digital assistants that will morph into cognitive assistants by 2020, transforming customer support.

Drones and robotics
Drones and robotics will play an increasingly important role in the workplace for everything from surveillance to service delivery.

Blockchain
The adoption of blockchain as a platform for trusted exchange will grow because of its reliability, speed, lower costs, and process integrity.
