UNICEF South Africa and CM.com this week announced a long-term partnership to promote donations and awareness for children's rights.

The strategic partnership was officially signed in The Hague, Netherlands, and will continue for three years.

CM.com, formerly CM Telecom - a Dutch mobile services company with offices in SA - will run the children's rights organisation's new mobile fundraising activities in SA, as well as offer internships to young girls.

CM.com will be the SMS gateway supplier for the organisation's first mobile fundraising campaign in SA. Citizens who want to donate can text the word UNICEF to 45642.

There will be promotional videos on Mango and South African Airways flights, as well as in Ster-Kinekor cinema halls.

CM.com will join UNICEF's Techno Girl Programme, a job shadowing initiative that aims to strengthen girls' entry and learning in STEM fields.

It is supported by UNICEF, the Uweso Trust and SA's government. The programme works through a public-private partnership model and seeks to reduce the skills shortage while contributing to the promotion of gender equality in these male-dominated fields.

Two girls will be provided an internship at CM's headquarters in Breda, Netherlands, for three months in 2018.

"Partnerships with the corporate sector are crucial to advancing the agenda for children," says Sandra Bisin, UNICEF's chief of communication and partnerships in SA.

"Only a focused, collective effort will ensure that even more children and young people in SA benefit from life-saving interventions through the use of technology."
