South African distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) has been appointed as a distributor of the Dell EMC Alienware PC gaming series to the South African reseller channel.
According to Dell EMC, the move is part of its long-term strategy to expand the gaming business into new markets. "This represents an important move in a marketplace that continues to show noteworthy growth. The PC gaming market is a core focus for us and the company expects it to grow over the next five years," said Heinrich Pretorius, Dell EMC consumer product specialist at DCC. "Offering the range to the channel enables our resellers to proactively pursue opportunities in this exciting marketplace that continues to show exciting growth," he said.
The Alienware gaming PCs are products designed by American computer hardware subsidiary of Dell, Alienware. The products were first launched locally in 2010 but saw a dip in availability in 2015. Late last year, Dell signed an official distribution deal with Pinnacle Africa that saw the products being readily available in SA.
"The new series includes the 15- and 17-inch models which are packed with compelling and powerful features, optimised for gaming consumers. The series is VR-capable and has VR-certified configurations available. The new products are engineered to support NVIDIA's 10-series GeForce graphics and overclocked Intel Core i7 processors, available in 8GB and 16GB RAM. The series also features an Alienware TactX keyboard which support n-key rollover, enabling over 108-key commands for maximum actions per minute. The keyboard is reinforced with a steel back plate for rigidity and uniform feedback with a guarantee to stay functional for up to 10 million keystrokes," explained Pretorius.
The series is available in materials such as anodised aluminium, magnesium alloy and offers steel reinforced keys, and copper thermal modules.
Research company Statista has indicated that the value of the console gaming market in South Africa in 2021 is estimated to be worth nearly R812 million up from R754 million in 2016.
"DCC is proud to offer gaming PCs which come in a thin, industrial factor that includes an infrared camera with support for Windows Hello technology, providing an intuitive PC experience," noted Pretorius.
