VMware regional director for Sub-Saharan Africa Matthew Kibby has resigned and will leave the company at the end of January.

With more than 30 years of experience in the IT industry, Kibby joined VMware in 2015 from Oracle where he held a number of senior sales roles in technology and financial services.

His resignation has left VMWare sub-Saharan Africa without a leader. Kibby joined VMware following the departure of Fred Baumhart.

Prior to joining VMware, Kibby was the senior director: technology sales at Oracle and before that he was the sales director: financial services.

He has also worked at Prism as the strategic sales director: financial services as well as sales manager at National Data Systems.

In addition, Kibby was a member of the board of governors at Wit Deep Primary School for a period of five years, three of which he was chairman.

"Matthew has been a great professional and positive leadership asset to the local team, customers and partners since his appointment in 2015. Sub-Saharan Africa has had stunning results since then," said VMware in a statement.

"VMware would like to wish him well with his new challenge."

VMware said it is actively looking for a replacement in the region. "But until then, we have full confidence that the strong local management team will continue growing the business and satisfying our customers."
