Telkom appoints international MD

Johannesburg, 16 Apr 2009

Multi-Links Telecommunications MD, Thami Msimango, will head up Telkom`s new international business unit.

Msimango has been acting in the position since the beginning of the month, when Telkom switched to its new three-business-unit structure, which includes Telkom SA, Telkom International and Telkom Data Centres.

"The appointment of Thami as MD will go a long way towards supporting the strategic focus and vision of the Telkom International Business Unit, as well as in refocusing the overall imperatives of the Telkom Group," says Telkom Group CEO Reuben September.

"I have no doubt that his experience will help Telkom realise the anticipated revenue streams from our acquisition of Multi-Links."

Msimango`s appointment follows that of Telkom SA`s new MD, Nombulelo "Pinky" Moholi, who is serving out the last days of her term at Nedbank.

"A new vista of opportunities and markets are available on the African continent. With the support of Telkom`s exco and my staff, I`ll be looking to explore avenues to optimise on our investments and deliver on other key Telkom priorities, such as enhanced customer focus, growth in the area of mobile capability, shareholder value creation, together with a major turnaround in the profitability of Multi-Links," says Msimango.

The new structures and strategies are being put in place to help streamline the behemoth, which needs to grow business, maintain market share and decrease spend to stay in line with SA`s telecoms industry.

The company has not yet appointed a head for its data centre operations; however, it noted an announcement will be made soon.
