Network security appliance released

Fortinet, a network security and unified threat management solutions provider has introduced a FortiGate multi-threat security appliance designed to meet high-end requirements of the mid-enterprise customer segment, according to Computerworld.

Fortinet also says it added improvements and more functionality to its FortiOS 4.0 operating system which powers all FortiGate devices.

The FortiGate-1240B appliance offers a 40Gbps firewall and 16Gbps IPSec VPN throughputs and allows customers to segment dozens of LANs within their larger network, each with its own set of security policies and performance requirements.

Avenda integrates with Great Bay

Avenda Systems, provider of identity-aware network security, has completed interoperability testing between Great Bay Software's Beacon Endpoint Profiler and its eTIPS' identity-based network access control (NAC) platform, reports InformationWeek.

The combined products offer a powerful endpoint discovery and network security solution, giving customers the ability to control who and what types of devices are allowed on their networks.

Together, these products facilitate the deployment of NAC services by reducing the time needed to identify network endpoints, their attributes and maintain a real-time database used in policy decisions.

Enterprises face endpoint security risk

In an effort to help IT departments evaluate and better secure their network endpoints, such as desktops, notebooks, smartphones, MP3 players and thumb drives, Novell has released initial results from its Threat Assessment survey, says Reuters.

These show that many enterprises are still highly vulnerable to preventable security threats.

To date, the survey has revealed significant vulnerabilities, particularly in the areas of inadequate data protection, insufficient mobile access policies, and lack of application control and system integrity for endpoint devices.
