HP debuts TouchSmart printers

HP debuts TouchSmart printers

Hewlett Packard has released what it claims to be the first consumer line-up of touch-enabled HP photosmart printers enabled by its TouchSmart user interface, reports CIO.de.

The touch-screen technology is said to enable consumers to conveniently display, edit and print photos, as well as copy, scan and print documents.

The Photosmart printers also feature one-touch wireless set-up, and up to 30% reduced energy consumption compared to previous models.

Hospital's printing overhaul saves costs

Concerned with the environment and saving costs, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur has developed new measures to better manage its printing environment, reports TheStar Online.

By reducing paper wastage, the private medical centre found that managing its printing assets properly enabled it to save up to 30% in total cost of ownership on its IT assets.

In an assessment conducted with Lexmark International, the hospital found that device consolidation and a pro-active system helped manage its printing needs while it focuses on maintaining good customer service.

Futuristic imaging glasses unveiled

Brother Industries is using laser printing technology to develop a mobile imaging display that focuses light directly on the retina, allowing graphics to be superimposed onto the wearer's vision, says Wired.

The device is incorporated into a pair of glasses. The eyepiece traces light on the retina at such speed and frequency that residual after-images on the user's vision appear to create a display.

The company's Web site suggests the “retinal RID could be used to "read documents such as operations manuals [in] narrow spaces", but the obvious application of this technology is in the field of augmented reality.
