Google buys out Gizmo5

Internet search giant Google has acquired voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) start-up Gizmo5, reports Smart Company.

Analysts have called the move a precursor by Google to strike a campaign against Skype, which controls 80% of the VOIP market.

Last month, Skype considered purchasing Gizmo5 in the event it lost a legal battle with its original founders. But just days after Skype announced all legal action had been settled, Google purchased the small company.

iPhone app allows calls over IP

Matrix Knowledge Management has unveiled a new application that will enable iPhone users to make VOIP calls and send SMS messages over IP, according to TMCnet.

Company officials said the V Phone is more enhanced when compared to other VOIP software. It does not lock iPhone users into working with a single VOIP provider, but lets them select multiple providers for enabling voice calling features.

V Phone is the SIP client of VOIP software that can be downloaded to the mobile handset of the user who can enjoy the full benefits of value services of mobile VOIP. This mobile phone software platform is composed of a broad range of applications and libraries including telephony, delivering fully-integrated functionalities to mobile handsets or smartphones.

Jajah heads for $400m sale

Mobile VOIP start-up Jajah is in the middle of a bidding war, which could see the start-up sold for between $200 million to $400 million, says Globes Online.

Microsoft, Cisco and Telefonica Europe have all shown interest in acquiring the company.

Last April, Jajah, which competes with Skype, signed an agreement with Yahoo to allow Yahoo's 100 million Messenger users to carry on phone calls with Jajah technology.
