Netbooks address emerging market needs

Johannesburg, 10 Dec 2009

The uptake of netbook technology in other parts of the world bodes well for the emerging Internet markets such as South Africa, as the previous barrier to entry posed by prohibitive hardware costs are now something of the past.

So says @lantic Managing Director, Neil Meyer. Consumer-focused Internet and telephony provider, @lantic, has launched a netbook and wireless broadband bundle range aimed at the emerging market segment.

According to Meyer: “The netbook and broadband bundle addresses a market need that has long been overlooked by most providers, as previous bundles focused mainly on higher spec, more expensive notebooks, which put the bundles out of reach of the emerging market where the need is much higher. Our differentiator is that @lantic offers the netbook bundles on an industry first 24-month contract compared to the extended 36-month deals currently offered on similar products.

This aligns the netbook contract term with the wireless broadband contract term. Jeane' van Greunen, @lantic Head of Products, says: “The Samsung N140 netbook provides a low cost, high spec option. This netbook has an astonishing up to 11 hours of extended battery life, which also makes it ideal for travellers and students. It weighs in at a mere 1.27kg and offers a 10.1-inch LED screen. Even though the netbook is small in size, it is large on value-added features such as a built-in Webcam and a one-year Microsoft Office licence, as well as anti-virus.” @lantic also provides a free fax2mail number and e-mail, which makes the user totally independent.

The netbook product bundles are available from the extended @lantic franchise and reseller channel all over South Africa, and the option to select between iBurst and HSDPA wireless Internet provide the consumer with coverage in a most parts of the country.
