Local security specialist, the Information Security Group (ISG) of Africa, has introduced a certificate to prepare students to operate as an emergency response team to IT security threats.
The ISG, fronted by security guru Craig Rosewarne, will begin the training sessions for students at the end of March, giving local IT learners the chance to enter into the security industry with skills to tackle the growing IT security risks in Africa.
According to the ISG, SA does not have an established national computer security incident response team, which has led to low response times to security incidents locally. The organisation also says the lack of skills means there is a shortage of awareness of possible threats.
The training will be presented in association with First National Bank, the European Network and Information Security Agency, and the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association. Aptronics will train the network security incident team's staff.
The courses will focus on developing students to form part of a computer security incident response team. This will be the first course of its kind in SA, says the ISG.
The three-day course will take place in Sandton, from 23 March to 25 March, and will be run by several international security specialists. “They will be supplemented with a local legal consultant to provide the local legal perspective,” says the ISG.
The course will cover how security response teams fit into organisations. It will also take a look at the tools IT specialists will need and how to react to an emergency threat to an organisation's security.
