Toshiba focuses on mobility

Johannesburg, 15 Feb 2010

Mobile computing is an important growth area and new opportunities are emerging for mobile device manufacturers to enhance the way consumers and businesses utilise mobile technology.

This is the view of Reon Coetzee, sales manager at Toshiba SA. He argues that those who run a mobile business, or spend most of their time travelling, need to have complete and unhindered access to the resources required to do their work.

According to Coetzee, Toshiba has decided to focus extensively on the mobile accessories area of its business. The company has incorporated the previously secondary division into a new, larger unit called Digital Products and Services (DPS). This will focus on delivering standalone accessories and developing mobility solutions based on various lifestyles and business applications.

“It's not good enough just to sell desktops or mobile computers anymore,” Coetzee adds. “Our customers demand even more from their mobile experience, which is why Toshiba is placing a renewed level of attention on making options and accessories more available to our customers.”

The real value for mobile users, explains Coetzee, is not in how small and cheap the mobile device is, but how much they can do with it in as small a form factor as possible. Another factor is how much being out of the office is going to disrupt day-to-day business activities.

He says the accessory products will include laptop accessories, Camileo digital video cameras, external storage devices, and digital photo frames.
