Citrix Systems and Novell have signed a partnership deal to drive virtualisation interoperability for channel partners and cloud computing service providers.

The partnership means Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server customers are also Citrix certified when using XenServer.

Nick Keene, country manager of Citrix Systems SA, says: “Enabling the large Suse Linux Enterprise customer base to be certified on XenServer significantly furthers our efforts to deliver XenServer as the best and most cost-effective virtualisation platform for enterprise and cloud infrastructures.”

According to Citrix, cloud providers gain the free XenServer as an enterprise-class virtualisation platform for Linux and Windows environments. Citrix says this enables cloud providers to run and manage heterogeneous data centres.

Virtual management

In addition, Citrix says it will participate in the Novell PlateSpin Recon for Assessment Programme, which enables Citrix channel partners to roll out Novell assessments for virtualisation, server consolidation and cloud readiness.

The assessments provide consolidation planning to give channel partners a view of their physical and virtual infrastructure.

“Our partnership with Citrix gives our many joint customers and partners a better way to manage their virtual infrastructures,” says Joe Wagner, senior VP and GM of global alliances at Novell.

Wagner adds: “We are providing a deeper and better integrated set of enterprise-class solutions that provide the tools to make intelligent decisions on data centre virtualisation, and the world-class infrastructure to run high-performance virtual environments.”
