RSA Data Loss Prevention Suite helps global corporations collaborate securely

Johannesburg, 08 Apr 2010

RSA, the Security Division of EMC, has announced enhancements to the RSA Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Suite, the integrated, market-leading suite of data security products engineered to discover, monitor and protect sensitive data from loss, leakage or misuse whether in a data centre, on the network, or out at the endpoints.

With more than 70 new features for scanning, workflow, reporting, and global content processing, version 8.0 of the RSA DLP Suite is designed to allow global organisations to collaborate securely, protecting more sensitive data in more places and reducing risk worldwide.

“Business pressures such as an increase in collaboration and support for mobile devices are driving easier access and broader sharing of enterprise information, which ups the ante for IT organisations to keep their sensitive data well-protected,” said Derek E Brink, vice-president and research fellow for IT Security, Aberdeen Group. “The top performers understand that safeguarding sensitive information is not only about discovering and managing the information itself, but also about managing access to that information and preventing its loss or disclosure - especially in those areas where end-users collaborate, such as file shares, e-mail and the Web.”

“Protecting sensitive information as it transforms and moves across the globe is mission critical to today's multinational enterprises,” said Servaas Venter, Acting Country Manager of EMC South Africa. “Customers need security solutions that can help them manage their information risk by proactively locating and controlling sensitive information as it moves through the IT environment. The new features in the RSA DLP Suite address this need by offering better visibility into high areas of risk, and helping improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of ongoing security operations.”

The new RSA DLP Suite is engineered to allow organisations to reduce risk by proactively discovering and remediating even more sensitive data types and sources, including native scanning of Microsoft SharePoint and IBM Lotus Notes, two of the most popular collaboration products that often hold highly sensitive user-generated information and intellectual property. The product can also scan and fingerprint IBM DB2 databases, allowing much more data to be discovered and protected.

The latest release of the RSA DLP Suite also includes enhanced capabilities for Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages, allowing multinational enterprises to help lower their total cost of ownership. The seamless processing of mixed language content and end-user notification in multiple native languages means ease of deployment for the customer, with no need to modify the IT infrastructure. Content analysis and administrative support for these languages allows users to collaborate securely across the globe.

RSA DLP Suite also is designed to offer offline endpoint protection for Web and Instant Messaging traffic when users are disconnected from the corporate network. This allows organisations to protect sensitive data even when employees bring laptops home and work remotely without directly connecting through the corporate network. Offline endpoint protection includes end-users in the risk reduction process, with notifications and justifications, taking some of the burden off of security administration.

New features in RSA DLP Suite also are engineered to allow organisations to more effectively share the value of DLP's risk-awareness with key stakeholders. The Suite is built to generate trend and summary reports according to department, incident type, severity and status, and then automatically send those reports to the appropriate personnel. These reports can dramatically help reduce the time spent handling security incidents.

The RSA DLP Suite's integration with the RSA enVision platform and technology from newly-acquired Archer Technologies will also help form the backbone of most organisation's corporate security operations, with DLP playing a critical role in a closed-loop system that discovers data, classifies it, and maps to organisations' overall security policies.

With new and updated policy templates, RSA continues to provide one of the most comprehensive DLP policy and classification libraries in the industry. The new policy and classification content includes support for Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Passenger Name Records (PNR), State level credentials, as well as additional HIPAA, banking, and credit card content. These new and updated policies have been added to RSA's already-robust database of more than 120 different policy templates.

RSA DLP's existing Common Criteria certification and Federal Information Processing Standardisation (FIPS 104-2) compliance now enables United States Federal government agencies and corporations that do business with the US government to deploy DLP in a more efficient manner. The enhanced capabilities for Chinese, Korean and Japanese languages also allow users doing business in those countries to leverage all policies, regardless of what language their document is in.
