Comtel buys Megaserve

Cape Town, 04 Jan 2010

Comtel Communications purchases Megaserve Internet Solutions, a Cape Town-based WISP, on 1 December 2009, consisting of 19 hi-sites and over 400 clients predominantly located on the West Coast from Saldanha, inland towards Vredenburg, and down to Malmesbury, Worcester and Paarl.

According to CEO Dave Couves: “We have undertaken another technical challenge and are currently in the process of merging the networks. Our teams are putting in great effort to ensure continued uninterrupted services for all our clients.”

After the network upgrades, which are estimated to be complete by early June 2010, Comtel will be in a position to offer various 'value add' services, including 'remote data backups'; telephone lines, PBX services and other hosting products.

“One of our key objectives is geared towards reducing monthly rates to our new clients, which will make us more competitive as compared to the current ADSL offerings in the market today”, says Floris Brand, Senior Sales & Marketing Executive at Comtel Communications.

Given the West Coast is a rapidly expanding economy, this is an important acquisition that firmly places Comtel as one of the leading wireless service providers in the Western Cape.
