Belay concludes 26% BEE deal

Johannesburg, 10 May 2010

Belay Knowledge Management (Belay) today announced it has reached the black empowerment goals set by the company directors back in 2005, by obtaining a level 2 certification.

Belay Knowledge Management is part of the Belay Group of companies, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The BBBEE charter has always been foremost in the company's planning strategy with the progressive implementation of elements of the charter each year to ensure compliance by 2010.

The company is proud to announce that the 26% shareholding of this BEE is held by Ms Thandi Ramathesele, Ms Buli Maliza and Mr John Ramatsui, who serve on various executive committees within the group. In addition, John is Chairman of the Belay Group Board and Thandi a director of Belay Knowledge Management.

The company has grown from 10 people in 2000 to 145 permanent employees in 2010. This can be attributed to a dedicated team and a focused approached to delivering solutions that meet the customer's needs.

Belay has a policy of supporting initiatives focused on community upliftment and internal employee social growth. One of these projects is the Astri Dei annual cycle tour, which raises funds for tracksuits, takkies and T-shirts for previously disadvantage children in many cities and towns.

Belay has made a substantial contribution to this worthy cause as well as committed two of the directors to participate in the cycle tour. Vincent Coetzee and Nic Pieterse, both directors of Belay Knowledge Management, cycled with the Astri Dei team from Sutherland to Pretoria, a total of 1 480km covered over eight days with a total of 3 500 tracksuits distributed along the route.

The team visited disadvantaged communities in Britstown, Prieska, Kimberley and Bloemfontein. Thirteen hundred tracksuits were distributed in Bloemfontein to destitute children in the inner city, and a cr`eche and place of safety for children in Khotsong. The team also visited the Aids orphanage, Lebone House, which is just outside Bloemfontein. Belay is proud to be associated with these projects as it changes the lives of many children facing a cold winter in these regions.

Belay Knowledge Management also supports the Gracious Academy Computer training centre by offering computer financial support as well as training and development opportunities in the rural areas around Pilanesberg. The objective of this initiative is to assist students to empower themselves economically and socially through the enhancement of their knowledge, skills and experience. The project to date has been very successful making a difference in the lives of the students attending these courses.

Belay will continue to strive for a greater involvement in enterprise development initiatives to ensure that the company uses its entrepreneurial strengths to make a difference in the South African economy.
