The unified communications (UC) market is in consolidation mode and video and voice collaboration has emerged as a critical component of a strong UC solution.

So says Dan Engel, regional sales manager for Polycom, adding the company aims to expand its partnerships with key UC providers in SA.

He says Polycom hopes to build strong relationships with experts and develop its strategy further to deliver future business and software benefits to the country.

In light of this, Polycom and its local distributor Kathea will host a Visual Communications Expos'e on 26 May at Gallagher Estate, Midrand.

“The purpose of the Visual Communications Expose is to allow Kathea and its vendors an opportunity to showcase their technology to the company's partner base, as well as key end-users, in a bid to drive solution awareness and proactively build a pipeline for the South African market,” says Venessa Dewing, Kathea's Polycom business unit manager.

Andrew Davis, senior partner at Wainhouse Research and keynote speaker at the event, will focus on the video-conferencing market, its industry drivers, and the future of the market.

“Given the dynamics of the market, this is a promising time for Africa as more broadband becomes available and the use of such technologies is set to intensify,” says Davis.

The event features representatives from Microsoft, Wainhouse Research, and Frost & Sullivan, as well as local innovators and commentators in the open collaboration space.

It includes a panel discussion to debate the appeal and challenges of open collaboration, for CIOs in organisations considering this option.

“The event is aimed at not only showcasing the latest technologies and solutions from our partners, but to provide customers with an overview of interoperable collaboration solutions that enable full UC integration, while protecting their existing IT investments,” concludes Dewing.
