EMC acquires data warehousing firm

EMC has confirmed it is paying an undisclosed cash sum for privately held data warehousing specialists Greenplum, reports V3.co.uk.

Greenplum specialises in running massively parallel processing data architecture that it claims is between 10 and 100 times faster than the competition using virtual x86 architecture. EMC will integrate Greenplum's technology into its private cloud infrastructure.

“Greenplum's massively-parallel, scale-out architecture, along with its self-service consumption model, has enabled it to separate itself from the incumbent players and emerge as the leader in this industry shift toward 'big data' analytics,” said Pat Gelsinger, president of EMC Information Infrastructure Products.
