Check Point awarded International Common Criteria EAL4 Certification for Media Encryption

Johannesburg, 14 Sep 2010

SecureData Security, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings and the sub-Saharan distributor for Check Point Software Technologies, today announced that the latter's Endpoint Security Media Encryption has received Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ (EAL4+) certification from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP).

Media Encryption (4.95 HFA 01 build 238) adds to the extensive portfolio of certified Check Point Endpoint Security products available to those customers that require the highest-level of security certification.

Check Point Media Encryption enables businesses to secure sensitive corporate data and block incoming malware by encrypting removable media devices, such as USB drives, CDs and DVDs. The solution can be deployed independently or as part of Check Point Endpoint Security, the first and only single agent that combines all the critical components for total security on the endpoint.

"Data encryption has increasingly become a vital security requirement for many organisations, especially as the proliferation of removable media devices enables users to extract corporate data in an instant and can easily result in a security breach," commented Doros Hadjizenonos, Product Manager at SecureData for Check Point Software Technologies' products. "Achieving EAL4+ certification reinforces Check Point's commitment to the quality of its product development, as well as providing the highest level of trust and protection to our customers.

“Achieving EAL4+ certification for Media Encryption indicates it has passed a long and stringent evaluation process,” continued Hadjizenonos. “The International Standard Organisation initially adopted Common Criteria and uses EAL levels as global standards. EAL4 certification provides assurance to government agencies, and any organisation protecting mission-critical assets that Check Point security solutions meet or exceed strict criteria.”

In addition to Media Encryption that offers customers comprehensive port and removable media protection, Check Point also offers Full Disk Encryption for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux based computers, and mobile phone encryption through Pointsec Mobile. Check Point encryption software blades are quick and simple to deploy, scale to any size organisation, are proven in many industry and government deployments around the world, and support the broadest set of platforms. EAL4+ certification for Media Encryption is the latest of many industry standards Check Point products consistently meet.

"Demonstrated by Check Point's ability to consistently achieve the highest industry certifications, customers have the confidence that their network and endpoints are protected by the industry's most advanced security solutions," concluded Hadjizenonos.
