Central security management - oh, so important

Johannesburg, 15 Sep 2010

One of the major issues within security is the complexity and management of security point solutions that have been deployed. As enterprises deploy security solutions across geographically distributed clients and servers, IT departments require sophisticated management tools to monitor critical metrics about security status, to proactively identify weak spots, and to simplify security administration.

“Fortunately, managing enterprise security across geographically distributed clients and servers has now become easier and more cost-effective with Trend Micro's new Control Manager release 5.5,” commented Lee Bristow, Product Manager at SecureData for Trend Micro's products.

“This Web-based management console tracks security performance, reports malware events and policy violations, and automates routine tasks, thus streamlining the management of your Trend Micro security solutions. You gain advanced control over your security posture with enterprise-wide visibility, consolidated reporting, greater scalability, more threat intelligence, and it comes with a customisable dashboard.

“Furthermore, Trend Micro Control Manager (TMCM) allows you to download and deploy update components throughout the network, thus helping to ensure that protection is consistent and up to date,” continued Bristow. “Example update components could include virus pattern files, scan engines, and anti-spam rules. In addition, it permits both manual and pre-scheduled updates, and allows the configuration and administration of products as groups or as individuals. In summary, the benefits of Control Manager include:

* Enterprise-wide co-ordination
* Proactive outbreak management
* Vulnerability assessment
* Outbreak prevention services
* Damage cleanup services
* Multi-tier management structure
* Flexible and scalable configuration of installed products

“The latest release includes the customisable Dashboard, the facility for displaying statistics and the capability of tracking the latest trends from Trend Micro's cloud-based threat intelligence,” concluded Bristow. “As security software becomes more sophisticated to counteract the increasing threat situation, it's vital that a tool is available that helps reduce this complexity and lowers the costs of managing the installation/network. TMCM does precisely that.”

SecureData Security, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings, is the sole sub-Saharan distributor for Trend Micro.
