Michelangelo Technology was announced runner-up at the 2010 Business of the Year Awards during the Capital City Business Chamber annual prestige function, held in Pretoria, on 5 November 2010.
The adjudication, done by Business Partners, is based on criteria including uniqueness, profitability, entrepreneurship and outstanding service. In-house development work over the past three years has resulted in Michelangelo taking the following commercial products to market:
* Safe Computer: anti-theft, wall-mounted slim-line design, energy efficient (55W with integrated LCD).
* Bonding Appliance: faster broadband.
* Green Modular Concrete Construction: environmentally friendly computer centres that do not require conventional air-conditioners.
Michelangelo CEO Andr'e Nel believes green ICT solutions will lead the way in South Africa. “By investing in intellectual property with the development of energy efficient ICT solutions, Michelangelo Technology is set to achieve high growth and reach a significant user base,” he says.
Michelangelo launched a dedicated uncapped bonded broadband Internet service in October 2010, for Gauteng Business Parks, with discounted Internet services for schools anticipated in January 2011.
Bonded business Internet speeds of either 6Mbps or 12Mbps is achieved by bonding ADSL and wireless. A service level agreement with 99.8% availability (1 1/2 hrs unavailability in business hours per month) is offered for business Internet by monitoring Internet connections and implementing failover between ADSL and wireless using the Michelangelo Ethernet Bonding Appliance.
Business Parks are prone to problems with ADSL and medium businesses that often have more than 50 ICT users need high Internet availability and access to e-mails. UMT SA has recently switched over to the Michelangelo Dedicated Bonded Business Internet in Route 21 Business Park, Irene. The MD, Dries van der Colff, had the following to say: “Thank you and congratulations on a perfectly-executed switchover. I'm looking forward to a high-quality, reliable Internet service from now on.”
