Telco giants build NFC network

AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile have jointly created ISIS, a national mobile commerce platform, reports International Business Times.

The trio of carriers are building the network to enable point-of-sale payments using mobiles rather than cards.

The network uses smartphones and near-field communication (NFC) technology to make mobile payments. The service will be rolled out in 18 months.

Google sees phones replacing cards

Google CEO Eric Schmidt claims that smart phones will eventually replace credit cards by using NFC technology, states Seattle PI Business.

Google is using a wireless standard that allows consumers to make a payment, or accomplish other tasks, by waving a device over an electronic reader.

It is believed that the Samsung Nexus S is running the next version of Google's popular Android mobile operating system, known as Gingerbread, which will become available in coming weeks.

OATSystems unveils RFID for aerospace

OATSystems, a division of Checkpoint Systems, has introduced its radio frequency identification (RFID) Asset Tracking Solution, which complies with the Air Transport Association (ATA)'s Spec 2000 standard, says More RFID.

ATA Spec 2000 enables information exchange between key stakeholders involved in the manufacture, repair and operation of commercial and military aircraft.

By embedding information directly on an RFID tag that is attached to the part, its history is always readily available at any point in the part's service life. This is particularly important for maintenance companies, which may not have Internet access in the field.
