Capitalising on the growing social media phenomenon, a local developer has come up with 'Tickmarkers', a social networking site developed specifically for financial, accounting, tax and auditing professionals to communicate on both a social and business level.

Angelo Pereira, a director with experience in recruitment within the finance industry, transformed his vision of bringing the South African financial, accounting and auditing industries together in one forum by conceptualising and developing Tickmarkers.

According to Pereira, Tickmarkers is a niche networking site where South African finance professionals can acquire information, pose questions, keep up to date with industry changes, find relevant courses and continuous professional development (CPD) offerings as well as network and conduct business.

“Members have access to a platform of likeminded qualified professionals and graduates, which presents opportunities for networking with those who have similar interests; reading focused information presented by leading industry members; updating knowledge; making and receiving comments on new industry developments; finding career opportunities; as well as to just have fun,” he says.

Training tools to enhance job search and career development, access to relevant videos, regular Webinars, daily news, blogs, industry discussions are also features of the site.

Interest and uptake from training and CPD providers has been strong, says Pereira, and the site provides a “unique platform” to promote their services and course offerings as well as to allow members to register for training online as well as to log into training Webinars and much more.

Pereira goes on to say Tickmarkers offers industry bodies an excellent opportunity for affordable visibility and receptive membership, wider exposure to their member base and a vehicle for expansion of membership.

“The site, therefore, has something for everyone within the profession from the individual professional member to the large corporate financial institution, training providers, professional institutes and bodies; anyone involved in the financial, accounting, audit, tax, investment and related industries.”

Pereira also points out that research has shown that social and professional networking will continue to be an extremely popular and effective medium of communication but success in the future will lie in focusing on specific niche groups and becoming more of a resource then a pure socialising opportunity for members.
