Redefine and Swish selects Comtel

Johannesburg, 04 Jan 2011

Comtel Communications was mandated in December 2009 to provide the Altrix Systems Voice and Data Hospitality System for Redefine and Swish Properties' new 183 room, 5-Star Hotel in Woodstock, Cape Town, more formally known as the Upper Eastside Hotel and Conference Centre.

Having officially opened in June 2010, this luxurious hotel takes full advantage of the panoramic views that the Mother City has to offer. The hotel's location enjoys the convenience of being five minutes from Cape Town CBD and the world-renowned V&A Waterfront, and a quick 15 minutes from Cape Town International Airport.

Having excelled in all other areas of this development, Redefine and Swish looked to Comtel for the latest technologies available in telephone and Internet solutions to match their hotel's ever increasing global client demands.

The benefit of the Altrix System is that it is completely converged. This means that telephone, Internet, security, intercom and access control is able to operate on a 'single cable network'. Additionally, it's built on one platform that includes features like voicemail, music on hold, auto-attendant, interactive voice response, wake-up call, a comprehensive telephone management system and a fully functional Internet hotspot system.

Serge Franco, director of Absolute Computer Solutions, the IT integrator for the UES Hotel, had this to say: “We have worked with Comtel on several projects to date and appreciate their technical expertise in their field. The Altrix product was perfectly positioned to offer our hospitality client all their ITC systems in one bundled solution. These include the sip-based PBX for the hotel and guest services; high-speed redundant Internet connectivity; and a WiFi management portal for guest Internet. All these systems integrate into the hotel's PMS seamlessly.”

Staff are being issued with SIP DECT phones on the 'mini mobile network' that enables staff to make and receive calls anywhere within the facility. This network supports 'handover', which means you can climb into the lift on the sixth floor, take it down to the ground floor, walk over to the restaurant and back to reception, all without call interruption.

Florentina Heaven, Duty Manager at UES, was suitably satisfied and said: “Comtel offered great flexibility in making the system as practical and user friendly as possible for our staff members and hotel guests. The support team as well as the management team in charge of the project have been very accommodating, and customised a lot of the options available in order to facilitate the specific needs that have come to light from the initial set-up.”

Francois Steyn, General Manager at UES, had this to say: “The project was conceptualised with a scope of works in mind. Contingency was made provision for in the scope of the budgeting. Without fail, no project, however well planned, goes strictly without hiccups. The differentiating factor with Comtel was its consistent commitment to resolve all our matters of concern logically in order to interface with our hotel way of operating. This ensured we were comfortable with the compatibility of the system and the support that is planned for the future.”

Comtel has installed systems into a number of hospitality environments, including the Relais Harbour Bridge hotel within the Cape Town International Convention Centre precinct, and the privately owned Cape Royale Luxury Hotel and Residence, situated opposite the new Cape Town Stadium.

Comtel Communications specialises in providing voice and data solutions including Internet access, VPNs, PBXes and wireless to a variety of industries, including hospitality, call centres, multi-branch companies, SMEs, corporates, multi-tenant developments and government institutions.
