BI to go mobile: Gartner

According to new research from Gartner, significant changes in the business intelligence (BI) market indicate that by 2014 most enterprises will possess BI that is IT-owned and report-focused, says CMS Wire.

By 2014, four major trends will emerge and mature, completely transforming the market and forcing companies to adapt or lose out. Not the least of these trends is the development of the BI market for mobile devices, which will see 33% of all BI functionality used exclusively on handhelds.

The research, which has just been published on Gartner's site, indicates that enterprises are starting to create entire environments consisting of collaboration technology, social software and BI to give companies a competitive edge.

BI key to greater mobility

Mobile apps will impact the enterprise more than ever in 2011 and beyond, according to a recent Mobile Applications Survey conducted by MicroStrategy, reports CIO Insight.

Survey respondents indicate that whether their employees are using the RIM BlackBerry, Apple iPhone and/or iPad, Google Android or other devices, their organisations are gaining awareness of how mobility can improve productivity, customer service, sales, field-service automation and other critical needs.

However, BI applications present the most appeal among tech decision-makers surveyed. These executives perceive mobility as the next 'big step' when it comes to viewing dashboards, alerts, KPI monitoring, mapping visualisation and data exploration or analysis, among other operational essentials.

Jaspersoft intros consumer Web to BI

Open source BI software vendor Jaspersoft has updated its flagship BI suite with a Web application architecture, improving usability and personalisation, reveals V3.co.uk.

Jaspersoft 4 has been built on open Web standards, which means it can be deployed on-premise or in the cloud in a multi-tenant software-as-a-service environment.

The suite has been architected in a way that separates presentation and content layers, meaning that BI experts within firms can make cascading style sheet changes to customise the look and feel without affecting the underlying functionality, the firm says.
