Mobile operator 8ta will extend its iPad dedicated data plans to the next-generation iPad 2, with WiFi + 3G, as of today - coinciding with the arrival of the latest Apple-manufactured tablet PC in the local market.

The iPad data plan is priced as follows:

512MB for R120
1GB
for R160
3GB
for R299
Out of bundle rate: R1 per MB

“8ta's data plans for the iPad 2 offers access to its 3G data network and all data plans will be available without a contract, providing the freedom to activate or cancel a plan at any time,” says Telkom's mobile arm in a statement.

“The 8ta data tariffs and features for the iPad 2 will remain the same as that offered for the first generation device.”

The iPad 2 is the next generation model of Apple's widely-popular tablet, improving on the original iPad by being thinner, lighter and faster. The new device still maintains the same 10 hours of battery life as the original.

Amith Maharaj, managing executive of 8ta, says: “8ta is excited to extend its exclusive data deal to the iPad 2 and remains the only operator in SA to do so. The iPad 2 has been tested and certified for use on the 8ta network.”

The prepaid data bundles for the iPad 2 will be offered at the same rates as those for the first-generation iPad, and remain exclusive to iStore sales of the device, says 8ta. The operator plans to offer post-paid data bundles for the iPad at a later stage.
