Neotel adds to consumer offering

Johannesburg, 16 May 2011

SA's second national operator, Neotel, has launched a cordless phone as one of its new consumer-focused innovations.

Last month, Neotel's new CEO, Sunil Joshi, said the company wanted to grow its consumer base by half, from 50 000 to 75 000 this year. Joshi said, at a media lunch, the company would add to its consumer offerings.

Its first new offering was launched today. Neotel now provides subscribers with a cordless home phone. The handset doesn't require installation and works off the CDMA network using the same technology as its existing home phones, but isn't a fixed desktop set.

Mukul Sharma, GM of Neotel's consumer division, says Neotel will launch new data devices and packages on its CDMA network in July, and aims to introduce a consumer broadband offering on WiMax towards the end of the year.

“The key objective will be to provide more value and convenience to customers, at a competitive price,” says Sharma.

Neotel's cordless phone, which provides instant connectivity, can be used within Neotel's coverage in a geographical calling area. It is available on both prepaid and contract packages, which is in line with Neotel's objective of providing connectivity to all types of customers within its coverage areas.
